This Wednesday we’re headed to Blandford Nature Center. This is a always a great ride, with a trip out onto the boardwalk at one of their small wetland areas, and a visit to the Blandford School grounds to see the chicken coop, barn, and student and community gardens. We’ve gone to Blandford for every year of PedalGR and I love introducing folks who have never visited to their grounds.
Also this week is the Grand Rapids stop for the New Belgium Clips Beer and Film Tour. Taking advantage of one of the best settings in the city on Grand River at Ah-Nab-Awen Park, this event has become one of my CAN’T MISS events of the year. All proceeds from the beer sales go to benefit the bicycle advocacy work of the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition (GGRBC). Central District Cyclery is hosting a slow-speed group ride to the event.
Toward the end of the Clips Beer and Film Tour, the GGRBC will announce the winners of their raffle for a New Belgium Cruiser Bike, donated by New Belgium, or a Twin Six Adventure Bike, donated by Twin Six and Central District Cyclery. I’ll have tickets for sale at PedalGR, or you can buy them on Thursday at the event. You need not be present to win.
PedalGR will be meeting tomorrow at 6pm instead of the normal 6:30. We’ll be riding up to Riverside Park to participate in the GR Mayor George Heartwell’s final Mayor’s Ride at 6:30pm.
If you can’t make it to Founders by 6pm, you can also meet us at Riverside Park at the Guild St (Island Shelter) entrance at 6:20. The City of GR, MDOT, and Mayor Heartwell will be cutting a ribbon for the official opening of the Monroe Ave separated two-way cycletrack.
Announcing the 2015 PedalGR Season Schedule!
Mark your calendars! It’s our eighth year of PedalGR and it’s gonna be a fun one. Watch for the 4/29 route coming soon.
This September I am riding 300 miles from GR to Chicago as part of the Climate Ride Midwest, raising money for the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition team. I heard so many great stories from local riders last year that I knew I had to do it this year (#bikecamp!!!!). If you want to do something fun and challenging to raise money and awareness around bicycle advocacy in Grand Rapids, this is it! Ask me (send an email to joshuajduggan (at) gmail.com) how you can join, or plan to attend an informational meeting on 4/20 at Rapid Central Station.
Hard to believe this is the finale of the 7th season of PedalGR. It’s been a great trip so far! Thanks to everyone for showing up. Last year Founders was closed while they completed their beer garden renovation to open in time for ArtPrize. The previous year we ended at our house. This year, we return to Founders and there will be cake!
Come welcome fall with us!
