9/7/11 – PedalGR End of Season Party/Ride

All aboard!

PedalGR, meeting at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 9/7/2011 at Founder’s Brewing Company, 235 Grandville Ave SW. PedalGR is a ride of the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club.

Party!

It’s the PedalGR End of Year Party/Ride, and we are going out in style.  Prior to the ride I’ll head to Parkside Foods to pickup our delicious array of bacon & cheese brats, regular brats, handmade burger patties, and two kinds of veggie burgers.   We’re doin’ it up Westside-style!  Our gracious grillmasters from The Motion Initiative will have the food set up for us when we arrive at Kensington Park.  We’ll also have homemade salsa w/tomatoes from the Duggan garden and Amy’s famous chocolate no-bake cookies.  Did I mention I like food? 🙂

During the party, we’ll pass a bucket for donations.  Half the collection will go to our hosts at The Motion Initiative and half will go to help offset the food costs.  I hope to surpass last year’s $50 donation to TMI, so bring your friends!  As always, PedalGR is a free event, so don’t let a lack of money stop you from joining us!

Ride.

There is a ride involved.  We’ll first head to Calder Plaza for a trip on the diSuvero tire swing.  Everyone is encouraged to act like children for this part of the ride.  Then we’ll head to the Fish Ladder.  Plenty of fish are running this time of year.  Finally, in a first for PedalGR, we’ll head UP the I-196 tunnel to get to Sunset Ave for a beautiful view of downtown.  Finally, we head across the new Oxford St Bridge to our destination at Kensington Park.  This is our shortest regular route of the year at only 8 miles, but it’s packed with stuff to see!

Need to Know:

  • This is a no-drop ride. We will do our very best to keep the group together and make sure no-one gets separated or left behind.
  • Ride is about 8 miles and will take about 1-1.25 hours (PedalGR is not a race).
  • HELMETS ARE REQUIRED on Rapid Wheelmen Club rides. (The insurance company’s lawyers insist) Please email or comment if you need to borrow one and we will try to accommodate you.

Sunday, Sept. 11th– PedalGR Moonlight Ride
The moonlight ride is BACK! Join us at Founders at 9pm. We’ll head out on Wealthy and hop on the trail to the Butterworth Dump. Once on the trail, we’ll shed the lights and ride by the light of the nearly full moon. There’s often enough moonlight to cast shadows and plenty to see by once your eyes adjust. After a lap around Millennium Park we’ll return to Founders for a beer. Simple enough! Hope you can join us. Ride should last between 1-1.5 hrs. LIGHTS ARE REQUIRED for the ride to and from the trail.

Saturday, October 8th– GR Urban Adventure Race – Artprize edition
The inaugural GR Urban Adventure Race in July was a sold-out smash hit, with 750 racers (375 teams) scouring downtown and the Westside to hit as many checkpoints as they could on foot and on bike. The organizers are planning a follow-up event on October 8th, incorporating many of the Artprize host sites around downtown. They’ve expanded the field to 1,000 racers (500) teams, but nearly half those slots are already taken. This great event is accessible to people of all physical abilities as the fastest team isn’t necessarily the one that can earn the most points. Sign-up today!
