8/19/15 – Taco Ride!

PedalGR, meeting at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 8/19/2015 at Founder’s Brewing Company, 235 Grandville Ave SW. PedalGR is a ride of the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club, but membership is not required to participate.

Taco Ride! Much like beer, bicyclists seem to love tacos. But, everyone loves tacos, so don’t go feelin’ special. Do join PedalGR for our annual taco ride.  We ride, we stop for tacos along the way. Pretty simple.

This year we’ll hit up Tacos el Cunado on Bridge Street. It’s one of our go to restaurants for a fast, delicious meal. They have experienced a string of overnight break-ins, so we’ll show them our support and give them our dollars.

Amy and I are participating this Sept. 27-30 in Climate Ride, raising funds for the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition (Amy is also raising funds for the League of Michigan Bicyclists). These organizations are doing critical advocacy work at the local and state level, speaking up for bicyclists and working toward a more bicycle-friendly Michigan. On Sept. 2nd, PedalGR will collaborate with the GGRBC Climate Ride team on a fundraiser at Horseshoe Smokehouse at 333 Grandville Avenue, 1 block south of Founders in the historic LaMar Hotel building. Meet before the ride for BBQ, anytime after 5pm. Ride will leave at the normal 6:30pm start time. A portion of the evening’s receipts will be donated to the GGRBC Climate ride team.

If you love PedalGR, and biking in GR, please also consider a donation to one or both of our Climate Ride accounts:

Additionally, the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition will be hosting a Handlebar Happy Hour at Elk Brewing Company on Monday, 8/31. Elk will generously donate 15% of their receipts that evening to the GGRBC Climate Ride Team. Come check out Elk’s new menu and support a great cause.

2014 Clips Beer and Film Tour
This Wednesday we’re headed to Blandford Nature Center. This is a always a great ride, with a trip out onto the boardwalk at one of their small wetland areas, and a visit to the Blandford School grounds to see the chicken coop, barn, and student and community gardens. We’ve gone to Blandford for every year of PedalGR and I love introducing folks who have never visited to their grounds.

Also this week is the Grand Rapids stop for the New Belgium Clips Beer and Film Tour. Taking advantage of one of the best settings in the city on Grand River at Ah-Nab-Awen Park, this event has become one of my CAN’T MISS events of the year. All proceeds from the beer sales go to benefit the bicycle advocacy work of the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition (GGRBC). Central District Cyclery is hosting a slow-speed group ride to the event.

Toward the end of the Clips Beer and Film Tour, the GGRBC will announce the winners of their raffle for a New Belgium Cruiser Bike, donated by New Belgium, or a Twin Six Adventure Bike, donated by Twin Six and Central District Cyclery. I’ll have tickets for sale at PedalGR, or you can buy them on Thursday at the event. You need not be present to win.

Mark your calendars! It’s our eighth year of PedalGR and it’s gonna be a fun one. Watch for the 4/29 route coming soon.

Shameless plug:
This September I am riding 300 miles from GR to Chicago as part of the Climate Ride Midwest, raising money for the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition team.  I heard so many great stories from local riders last year that I knew I had to do it this year (#bikecamp!!!!).  If you want to do something fun and challenging to raise money and awareness around bicycle advocacy in Grand Rapids, this is it!  Ask me (send an email to joshuajduggan (at) gmail.com) how you can join, or plan to attend an informational meeting on 4/20 at Rapid Central Station.

Details for the 4/20 meeting are here (even if you aren’t on Facebook, you can still click the link): https://www.facebook.com/events/395251463979224/

Or, you can make a donation on my Climate Ride page. I would be so thankful for your support: http://bit.ly/joshdoesclimateride

I’ve also got a fundraising challenge in the works that I hope to announce sometime in April, and even if you make a donation now (RIGHT NOW), it will still count toward my challenge.
