9/14/16 – Summer’s End Party/Ride

PedalGR ride begins at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 9/14/2016 at Founder’s Brewing Company, 235 Grandville Ave SW. PedalGR is a ride of the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club, but membership is not required to participate.

There will be cake! Sad, but true, another year of PedalGR has slipped by. It’s hard to believe Amy and I have been doing this for nine years. There will be a cake stop, a giant tire swing, and we’ll visit Sunset Ave as the sunset approaches.

Need to Know:

  • This is a no-drop ride. We will do our very best to keep the group together and make sure no-one gets separated or left behind.
  • Ride is ~9.5 miles and will have a few regrouping stops along the way. It should take about 2-2.5 hours (PedalGR is not a race). With the cake stop, we’ll be pushing the end of our daylight by the time we get back.
  • HELMETS ARE REQUIRED on Rapid Wheelmen Club rides. (The insurance company’s lawyers insist) Please email or comment if you need to borrow one and we will try to accommodate you.

I love bicycling. I love Grand Rapids. Even though I'm not from here (I'm from Omaha, Nebraska), I've lived here over 10 years and Grand Rapids is my new home. I'm a commuter, endurance racer, mountain biker, bicycle tourist, tandem captain, fat biker, roadie, and gravel grinder who likes to ride his bike to an occasional brewery, taco stand, or ice cream shop.

  1. Hi Joshua,
My name is Doug Bauman, I’m the president of a recently formed nonprofit Cycling Advocates of Southern Arizona (CASAz) in Tucson, AZ. I’ve been reading recently about the great success Grand Rapids has had with their DrivingChange program and would love to learn more about the process. Like Grand Rapids, Tucson has invested tens of millions of dollars to create bike lanes, but have not done nearly enough to educate the people of our community on how to safely share the roads. With your help, we feel as though CASAz could use DrivingChange as a model to greatly reduce fatalities and serious injuries to the vulnerable users on our roads. Thank You.
