8/3/16 Orchard Ride & Millennium Park

PedalGR ride begins at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 8/3/2016 at Founder’s Brewing Company, 235 Grandville Ave SW. PedalGR is a ride of the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club, but membership is not required to participate.

If you do one PedalGR this year, this should be the one! We’re switching things up this year, going in the Collindale side of Versluis Orchard. Farmer Nate will meet us there and surprise us with a tasty treat. Last year it was his famous “better than sex” sweet corn. Will it be peaches? Plums? Blueberries? Hard to know, but this is your chance to ride your bike into an orchard, eat fresh food you just picked at the source, and ask the farmer any questions you might have.

After that, we’ll head to Millennium Park. We’ll tour the new(ish) extension to the Hansen Nature Trail, and see the brand new boardwalk at “The Meadows”, which towers 24′ above the water offering panoramic views of the ponds to the east.

Need to Know:

  • This is a no-drop ride. We will do our very best to keep the group together and make sure no-one gets separated or left behind.
  • Ride is ~17.4 miles and will have a few regrouping stops along the way. It should take about 2-2.5 hours (PedalGR is not a race). With the orchard stop, we’ll likely be pushing the end of our daylight by the time we get back.
  • HELMETS ARE REQUIRED on Rapid Wheelmen Club rides. (The insurance company’s lawyers insist) Please email or comment if you need to borrow one and we will try to accommodate you.

I love bicycling. I love Grand Rapids. Even though I'm not from here (I'm from Omaha, Nebraska), I've lived here over 10 years and Grand Rapids is my new home. I'm a commuter, endurance racer, mountain biker, bicycle tourist, tandem captain, fat biker, roadie, and gravel grinder who likes to ride his bike to an occasional brewery, taco stand, or ice cream shop.
