This is it! The End of Season Party/Ride. Three things to know! 1) This ride is short! 8 Miles. Darkness creeps up earlier and earlier this time of year, so we have a limited time to get everything in. 2) CAKE! We’ll be having a giant cake, courtesy of the generous support of the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club. About 6 miles into the ride we’ll stop at Midtown Green. We’ll bring the plates, forks, and cake, you bring you and your friends. 3) Did I mention Cake?? We’ll also visit the beautiful campus of Aquinas College on the way to the cake. Then after the cake we’ll ride back to Founders for beer.
Also, this is your last chance to support Amy and I as we raising funds for the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition (Amy is also raising funds for the League of Michigan Bicyclists) through the Midwest Climate Ride on Sept. 27-30. Fundraising ends on Friday. Give at least $30 and we’ll deliver you some of Amy’s famous no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies.
The organizations we’re supporting are doing critical advocacy work at the local and state level, speaking up for bicyclists and working toward a more bicycle-friendly Michigan. A huge thanks as well, to everyone that donated and attended our 9/2 fundraiser at Horseshoe Smokehouse. And also to those who have donated directly to our Climate Ride accounts. We are so grateful for your support.
PedalGR started in 2008 as a group ride for anyone who likes to ride bikes, especially people who might be intimidated by group rides, and a way to explore Grand Rapids. Since then, we’ve had a couple who attended PedalGR as a first date later get married, and had a friend who hadn’t ridden a bike in years join PedalGR, get hooked, and has now completed a 100-mile bike ride each of the last 76 months. We’ve had seven cake-filled End of Year Party/Rides, and consumed hundreds of tacos and ice cream cones. The ride has been even more amazing than we could have imagined. Thank you for being a part of it.
Now we need your help! We have committed to participating in the Midwest Climate Ride on Sept. 27-30, raising funds for the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition and the League of Michigan Bicyclists. In order to help us reach our fundraising goals, and support critical bicycle advocacy work, please visit our fundraising pages and learn more about our reasons for riding and make a donation to help support bicycle advocacy in our city and state!
The organizations we are supporting are instrumental in helping the city and state continue to improve cycling in our communities. We believe strongly in the work they do and are/have been board members with both organizations. For the past 9 years we have spent countless hours and dollars traveling to Washington DC, Lansing and communities around Grand Rapids advocating for bicyclists.
We are invested in this cause and hope you will make a contribution to support the work we are doing by clicking one of the links below.
What’s in it for you? If you donate $30 or more, we’ll deliver a dozen of Amy’s famous no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies to anywhere in the Grand Rapids-area, via bicycle if possible.
If you would prefer to make your donation by check, please email Amy at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.
We thank you for the fun times you’ve given us over the past eight years and look forward to many more PedalGR rides in the future. Watch soon for more info on the PedalGR End of Year Party/Ride on 9/16.
NOTE: This week’s PedalGR will start at Horseshoe Smokehouse, 333 Grandville Ave SW, one block south of Founder’s Brewing Company.
PedalGR ride begins at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 9/2/2015 at Horseshoe Smokehouse. A pre-ride gathering for dinner will start at 5pm. Show up when you can, or eat dinner afterward to help support bicycling advocacy in Grand Rapids. PedalGR is a ride of the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club, but membership is not required to participate.
FUNDRAISER! Come try out the newest BBQ place in town and support local bicycle advocacy. Horseshoe Smokehouse is generously donating 15% of sales from 11am to close to the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition Climate Ride Midwest team. As members of this team, my wife Amy and I are raising funds to support bicycle advocacy in Grand Rapids and climate change awareness around the US. We will join 100+ other bicyclists from around the US on a 4-day ride from Grand Rapids to Chicago at the end of September.
Tonight’s ride will be our annual visit to Hillcrest Community Garden, to see what the good folks there are harvesting. Always an interesting stop with many things to look at. Hillcrest Community Garden is the largest community garden in West Michigan.
Need to Know:
This is a no-drop ride. We will do our very best to keep the group together and make sure no-one gets separated or left behind.
Ride is ~10 miles and will have a few regrouping stops along the way, and a stop at Hillcrest Community Garden. It should take about 2 hours (PedalGR is not a race).
HELMETS ARE REQUIRED on Rapid Wheelmen Club rides. (The insurance company’s lawyers insist) Please email or comment if you need to borrow one and we will try to accommodate you.
