Hello, Pedalers of GR. We begin our season with a somewhat dreary April hanging on for dear life. Fear not! We will kick spring in the pants and get this show on the road! Prime riding weather is on it’s way. In honor of spring and May and all things bike, The Spoke Folks are throwing a big ‘ol party with beer, food, bikes, screen printing, a photo booth, games, and tons of friends! You should be there, and bring the kids, too. The first ever Kickstand Kickoff is happening all day on Saturday, May 3rd. The party will be on Logan St. Just head south from Founders on Grandville Ave and Logan is one block past Wealthy St. All the details at: http://thespokefolks.org/kickoff2014/
The second piece of news is that Active Commute Week, hosted by the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition (GGRBC), is coming right up. Now is the time to get signed up for the Active Commute Challenge to log your active commutes during National Bike to Work Week on May 12-16. There will be lots of prizes for those who log the most commutes and on Friday, May 16th there will be 24+ Bike to Work Day Pitstops.
Lastly, the GGRBC is teaming with Brewery Vivant to host a special Handlebar Happy Hour on Sunday, May 18th, to celebrate a great week of riding and award prizes for the Active Commute Challenge. More info can be found at: http://acwgr.org/
This week’s PedalGR ride heads out for a roll through the Calvin College eco-system preserve. We’ll also roll around Reed’s Lake, see a few parks, and roll through Heritage Commons. Check back here for weather updates. Even if the weather is crappy, we’ll still be meeting at Founders for a pint, but we’ll understand if you only want to ride.
See you there!!!!
Need to Know:
- This is a no-drop ride. We will do our very best to keep the group together and make sure no-one gets separated or left behind.
- Ride is ~17 miles and will have a few stops along the way. It should take about 2 hours (PedalGR is not a race).
- HELMETS ARE REQUIRED on Rapid Wheelmen Club rides. (The insurance company’s lawyers insist) Please email or comment if you need to borrow one and we will try to accommodate you.
