We’re celebrating five years of PedalGR rides tomorrow at the PedalGR End of Season Party/Ride. And we’re doing it with cake! This year Amy and I are proud to host PedalGR for cake at our house. We’ll head there after stopping for a short “tour” of the new Uptown Farm. Though small, and just started about 6 weeks ago, this urban farm on Wealthy is already selling it’s bounty at the Fulton St Farmers Market (FSFM) and select restaurants like Bartertown Diner. You will be amazed at what can sprout in six weeks!
Andy Dragt will be stopping by with his bike trailer in tow after delivering produce for sale at the farmers market’s Wednesday evening hours (4:30-7:30). He’ll talk about how and why it got started and answer any questions you might have.
Need to Know:
- This is a no-drop ride. We will do our very best to keep the group together and make sure no-one gets separated or left behind.
- Ride is about 9.5 miles and will take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours (PedalGR is not a race). As the days get shorter, please bring lights if you have them.
- HELMETS ARE REQUIRED on Rapid Wheelmen Club rides. (The insurance company’s lawyers insist) Please email or comment if you need to borrow one and we will try to accommodate you.

Save The Date:
Saturday, September 29– GR Urban Adventure Race: ArtPrize edition
Thursday, October 4 – Reveal the Path – presented by Ada Bike Shop
“Ada Bike Shop presents a screening of Reveal the Path, a genre-defying adventure film that contemplates what it means to live an inspired life using the bicycle as a mechanism to explore, dream, and discover.
The official after-party is being held at Founders Brewing Co. when the film ends.
Attendees are encouraged to bike to Wealthy Theatre. Bike parking will be provided.
Group discounts are available for those buying 5 or more tickets.”
I recommend buying tickets in advance. The last mountain bike movie showing at the Wealthy Theater, Ride the Divide, sold out both the main theater and the 60 seat micro-cinema next door.

Late August to ????: Merrell Trails open to the public
The Western Michigan Mountain Bike Alliance just finished construction on 6 miles of world-class singletrack at Merrell Trails, part of their 50 in 5 campaign for 50 new miles of singletrack in 5 years. The trail is part of a new Sports Complex being built south of 10 Mile near US-131. Go ride and see what all the fuss is about. You won’t regret it. And if you like it, be sure to become a member, so they can build more awesome trail.
