Since it was about 97 degrees at the start of our first Ice Cream ride, only a few hardy souls showed. They were well rewarded for their efforts at Sweet Mellisa’s in Alger Heights, but I’m going to call a re-do! Our second Ice Cream ride will hit up the WestSide! We’ll stop in at Twister’s on Alpine. Hope to see you there!
Bring a few dollars for ice cream! I recommend the Trash Can Sundae.
Need to Know:
- This is a no-drop ride. We will do our very best to keep the group together and make sure no-one gets separated or left behind.
- Ride is about 12 miles and will take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours (PedalGR is not a race). As the days get shorter, please bring lights if you have them.
- Bring $$ if you want some ice cream.
- HELMETS ARE REQUIRED on Rapid Wheelmen Club rides. (The insurance company’s lawyers insist) Please email or comment if you need to borrow one and we will try to accommodate you.

Save The Date:
Saturday, Sept. 7-8th – KissCross Night Race and Battle at the Burg Bike Expo and Mtb Race
A full weekend of great bicycle events awaits you at Cannonsburg Ski Area. Starting Friday night with a KissCross night race under the lights, the unofficial kickoff to the Michigan cyclocross Season. With many laps around a short, closed circuit, cyclocross racing is a fantastic spectator sport. Come out and cheer the racers on while enjoying a beverage or two. Rumor on the KissCross website is that the course may go right through the beer tent! The Expo will be open from 4-7pm, with a screening of Ride The Divide at 7pm and the KissCross races at 7pm, 8pm, and 9pm.
Then on Saturday, the expo gets even bigger as the mtb races kick into high gear. Lots of prizes, lots of spectator opportunities, and more great food and Michigan beer available. Come check it out.
Saturday, September 29– GR Urban Adventure Race: ArtPrize edition
Late August to ????: Merrell Trails open to the public
The Western Michigan Mountain Bike Alliance just finished construction on 6 miles of world-class singletrack at Merrell Trails, part of their 50 in 5 campaign for 50 new miles of singletrack in 5 years. The trail is part of a new Sports Complex being built south of 10 Mile near US-131. Go ride and see what all the fuss is about. You won’t regret it. And if you like it, be sure to become a member, so they can build more awesome trail.
