PedalGR, meeting at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 5/23/2012 at Founder’s Brewing Company, 235 Grandville Ave SW. PedalGR is a ride of the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club.

It’s a perfect time to register for the Rapid Wheelmen’s 39th Annual 100 Grand Tour on Saturday, June 2. Choose your mileage from 17-140. There’s something for everyone on this scenic tour of the Grand River Valley and the hills NW of Grand Rapids. Amy and I will be once again be leading a Road Bike 101 group on the 36 mile route for those new to cycling or looking to get some tips for riding on the road.

More info at http://www.rapidwheelmen.org/100-grand.html, or visit https://www.bikereg.com/Net/15321 to register.

Mayor's Bike to Work Day with George Heartwell and Fox17's Emily Richett

Next, thanks to everyone who made the inaugural West Michigan Active Commute Week a smashing success.  The Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition had 507 people log trips in our Active Commute Challenge and GVSU won the corporate competition with the highest number of trips/participant.  Also of note, Calvin College had over ~150 people log an Active Commute sometime during the week.  See more about it by browsing our News Archive.

This week’s PedalGR ride will take us NORTH. We’ll visit some neighborhoods on the Westside and the partially complete Seward Avenue Bikeway before swinging over to Riverside Park.  We’ll continue along the river all the way past Four Mile.  Between the river, the forests, and the farms, you’ll forget you were just moments removed from riding in downtown.  We’ll head back through the NE side, hitting a few hills, including a really fun swooping downhill near I-196.  At 17.6 miles, this likely will be our longest ride of the year, so it might be pushing 9pm upon our return to Founder’s.  Sunset is at 9:07.

PedalGR 5/9/12 – Southeast Side Ride!

PedalGR, meeting at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 5/9/2011 at Founder’s Brewing Company, 235 Grandville Ave SW. PedalGR is a ride of the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club.

Tuesday, May 8th is the Mayor’s Ride. Starting at the Kroc Center, this family friendly ride will have 2-mile and 6-mile options on the Plaster Creek Trail. Come join in the fun.

This week’s ride will be a tour of the SE side of GR. We’ll visit some neighborhoods we haven’t seen before on PedalGR, and see one of my favorite trees in the city, a huge old oak on Union SE near Dickinson. In fact, the whole boulevard is filled with huge oaks for a couple of blocks. Other sites will include the recently renovated Joe Taylor Park, Ottawa Hills High School, and a hidden trail in East Grand Rapids.
